As it turns out, one of the biggest highlights of Lollapalooza 2012 didn’t actually happen during festival hours. Every night after a full day of performances, ck one (Calvin Klein’s cosmetics brand) presented Rock the Vote Nights at the popular Hard Rock Hotel Chicago.
Returning for its seventh consecutive year, Rock the Vote Nights has created some of the most unforgettable moments during Lollapalooza by introducing today’s top musical talent to the world. A few of the most memorable highlights from past years include a powerful performance by the late Amy Winehouse, the finale of Mark Ronson’s last U.S. tour, Ke$ha’s performance in 2009 right before she became a global pop sensation, and Stefani Germanotta partying at the festival before transforming into the famed Lady Gaga. The performance series has also produced countless groundbreaking collaborations, including Gza with Santigold, Spankrock with Amanda Blank, and Mark and Samantha Ronson.
Created by BMF Media Group, the late night concerts have become the biggest must-attend after parties of the festival. This year’s highly anticipated annual music series featured Dev, Deluka, Haley Reinhart, Neon Indian, and DJ White Shadow on Friday night, while Saturday night brought Chairlift, Midnight Conspiracy, Rosco Bandana, Ana Calderon, and Mike Nouveau to the Chicago hotspot. The Groove was especially wowed on Sunday night by Little Dragon’s set and Danny Masterson’s DJ set (best known for his role as Steven Hyde on “That ‘70s Show”).
Although we were sad that Lollapalooza had come to an end, we had a blast and can’t wait to do it again next year!
