The Berklee Groove and Guitar Center invite YOU to get into the groove with the official Fall 2012 “In the Groove” Songwriting Competition! Send us your best original song (any genre… as long as it grooves!) by 11:59 PM on Saturday, October 20th, for your chance to be selected as one of the top 3 finalists who will battle it out with a LIVE performance at Guitar Center in Fenway on Friday, October 26th! Just like last semester, the audience will choose who wins the ridiculously awesome first place prize package! For more information on how you can submit your song, check out the submission rules + guidelines below.
Fall 2012 “In the Groove” Songwriting Competition Rules + Guidelines:
1. Send an email to thegroove@berklee.edu with the subject “(YOUR NAME HERE) IS IN THE GROOVE!” and attach an MP3 of your BEST and grooviest song (one submission per person only), as well as the lyrics (if applicable, please include an English translation). You must be a currently enrolled Berklee student, the songwriter, AND the copyright holder or we cannot and will not accept your submission. It can be of any genre as long as it has a groove!
2. In the body of the email, please include the following information: your name, semester, principal instrument, major, phone number, the title of the song, your role(s) in the recording (i.e. producer, lead vocals, guitar, etc.) and if you are available from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM on Friday, October 26th.
3. You will be judged on the music, lyrics, arrangement and originality. You will not be heavily judged on production quality; however, we must be able to hear all parts of the song clearly.
4. The deadline for submissions is SATURDAY, OCTOBER 20th at 11:59 P.M. EST. Any submission received after that will not be accepted. There will be no exceptions.
5. The three finalists will be announced on our Facebook page and through email on Monday, October 22nd. Each finalist will perform the song they submitted at the live show at Guitar Center in Fenway on Friday, October 26th, from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM. The audience members’ votes will determine the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners.
