Submissions for our 2013 ‘In the Groove’ Songwriting Competition are NOW OPEN!

We want to hear your best original song! The top three finalists will battle it out live for the audience’s vote at The Red Room on November 7, 2013.

Here’s what you need to know about this year’s songwriting competition:

HOW TO ENTER

Entry is free! All you need to do to enter is submit this form.

DEADLINE TO SUBMIT

The deadline to submit is Friday, October 4, 2013 at 11:59pm. Sorry, no late entries will be accepted!

PRIZES

A full list of prizes for 1st place, 2nd place, 3rd place, and honorable mentions will be announced soon. In the mean time, we can guarantee you that the winner will receive a featured interview on berkleegroove.com, a feature in our monthly email newsletter, heavy promotion on our social media pages, and all three finalists will have their songs streamed on berkleegroove.com for our thousands of readers to hear. Prize packages from our previous songwriting competitions have been hundreds of dollars in value, so expect a similar caliber of prizes this year!

JUDGING CATEGORIES

Your submission will be judged based on the following categories, each worth 25% of your final score:
1. Music (quality and originality of arrangement, instrumentation, chord progressions, and melody)
2. Lyrics (quality and originality)
3. Performance (quality, phrasing, skill level of lead vocalist, or skill level of all musicians if band submission)
4. Catchiness (Is it memorable? Would it translate well in front of a live audience?)

WHEN YOU’LL FIND OUT IF YOU’RE A FINALIST

Finalists will be notified via email by October 21, 2013, and will also be publicly announced on our Facebook and Twitter pages.
