Breaking Down the Savior Complex with Jen Aldana

Though her life is looking a little different than what she planned, Jen’s faith spurs her on to create bold, authentic anthems of worship.

MAY 7, 2020

As the school year comes to a close, it’s crazy for me to think about how I only joined the Berklee Groove team at the beginning of this 2019 school year. I didn’t know what I was going to walk into, but I remember feeling excited and nervous. My first meeting with Ceskie blew me away. She briefed me on everything that she had in the works and I quickly learned that with the re-launch, the Groove had the potential to be way more than the school newspaper.

Everything we had to do in preparation for the re-launch was hectic in the best way. Some days were spent working late and brainstorming, editing the website, doing crazy photoshoots, and most importantly, doing anything we could to work toward our goal of inspiring the Berklee community. Although it could be stressful at times, we reminded ourselves of this goal and it kept us focused. Berklee Groove has such a passionate, driven team that I’m happy to be a part of.

I look back at this past year and I’m proud of what Berklee Groove has become. It’s amazing to think about how our ideas turned into plans, which then turned into reality. I’ve been inspired by the interviews I’ve read and listened to on the podcast, the music that I’ve discovered, and the community around me. I’ve seen more of the incredible things that the Berklee community has done and listened to more of the incredible music that they’re making. Working at the Groove has allowed me to learn about so many opportunities that are taking place in the music industry today and I’m glad that we get to share this information with our readers.

Thank you to Ceskie, Kaylee, Kirsten, and our Berklee Groove team. I love working with you all and I’m constantly inspired by the articles you write. Thank you to Berklee Groove’s readers and the Berklee community. Thank you for sharing your creations and your stories. I hope that we’ve achieved our goal of inspiring you and I can only hope that we continue to do this. I hope you and your loved ones are staying safe and healthy. #getinthegroove
