Album Preview: Katy Perry Has Found Her "SMILE" Once Again

After a two-year hiatus, Perry’s sixth studio album is a triumphant yet authentic return to the industry stage.

Girl with Micro Braids

JANUARY 30, 2020

Like many of my fellow Blinks, ARMYs, Onces, and so on, I have been on the hunt for fabulous K-Pop inspired fashion without the luxury of having a multimillion dollar company behind me and a militia of stylists at my beck and call. K-Pop is my biggest fashion inspiration, and what’s not to love? They take the most fun and exciting risks in their fashion, and they make themselves into walking art pieces. Finding the elements to emulate these ideas has proven a rather difficult task, considering that I do not live anywhere near Korea and am extremely picky. However, fear not, fellow K-Pop stans: I’ve discovered some accessible and relatively inexpensive options to accessorise outfits inspired by your faves.

If you, like me, enjoy the flashy, bold, and industrial military-inspired aesthetic of groups like Blackpink, CLC (Hobgoblin era), and Itzy, then I’ve got the perfect ideas for you! They traditionally fall into the “girl-crush” aesthetic, which revolves around counter-culture, edgy attitude, and a tough look.

Essentials of the perfect girl-crush wardrobe include:

- Fishnet tights

- Hoop earrings

- Chains of any kind (belts, necklaces, earrings, rings—the more chain, the better)

- Buckle belts

- Harnesses

- Interesting bags like crossbodies, fanny packs, and other satchels or bags with interesting placement and straps

- Chokers

- Silver and gun-metal jewelry

- Dark or armoured rings

Blackpink’s style doesn’t rely heavily on the use of accessories. Most of their outfits spurn flashy jewelry in favor of extremely bold statement clothing. They rarely wear rings, and when they do, it’s usually only one or two at a time; earrings are often simple and minimal; necklaces are chokers with very little layering. However, Urban Outfitters and Dolls Kill are, in my opinion, some of the best places to stock up on clothing inspired by Blackpink.

In stark contrast, Itzy goes all out when it comes to accessories. They wear bold statement pieces to match their luxury fashion, and often layer many accessories together. Belts, multiple necklaces, rings, and large earrings are worn regularly by each member. Itzy also experiments with incorporating trendy colors like lime green, bright red, hot pink, coral, and royal blue into their palette. I’ve found most of my Itzy-inspired accessories (which are honestly some of my favorites) at Target! The Wild Fable collection offers a number of very trendy and funky pieces in exactly the color palette I needed. I’ve also found a few pieces, namely chokers, at Rue 21, where they come in large packs and are relatively inexpensive for what you get.

Now, calling all lovers of everything girly and cute: Twice is the perfect group for you! Though their aesthetic has morphed throughout their career—from the school-girl themes of Signal to the dark glam of one of their most recent releases, Fancy—bright colors, unique jewelry, and feminine shapes are all staples of Twice’s look. Here are some Twice-inspired ideas for all your girly moods.

I hope these tips helped you on your quest for cheap, stylish accessories, and inspired you to get creative with your wardrobe in 2020!
